Ubuntu: ‘I am What I Am Because of Who We All Are’
Beautiful People learnt to appreciate their own individuality and celebrate the uniqueness of others.
Conducted by Andy Pan
Beautiful People realised how both their individual similarities and differences can be leveraged in a team, by using Emergenetics and communication strategies to achieve positive outcomes. Understanding what makes the other tick and behave has positively impacted how information and requests are communicated amongst the team members. This, in turn, has enabled volunteers to better reach out to the people they are helping as well.
“As Emergenetics shows, each of us is a rich tapestry of nature and nurture…”

Beautiful People started in 2006 as a programme under Beyond Social Services. It is a volunteer initiative that provides a platform to build mentoring relationships between 'volunteer big sisters' and 'teenage girls' in residential rehabilitation homes. The aim is to empower the girls to make a successful transition from negative cycles to a better positive future and to enable them to live stable, productive and dignified lives.
In June 2015, Beautiful People was incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee, which allowed them to serve more beneficiaries, and build better communities. Given this new phase of development, Beautiful People wanted to ensure that the culture remains strong as it continues to reach out to new groups of volunteers and beneficiaries. It is the foundation on which to build a resilient and lasting movement.
